Robert Pattinson starts shooting his new movie Bel Ami this week in London and Budapest.
The film is set in 1890s Paris and sees the Twilight star take the lead role playing Georges Duroy.
Opposite the Brit heartthrob are three A-list actresses- Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci.
Bel Ami is bound to please female fans of R-Patz as according to the studio it’s an “erotically charged story of ambition, power and seduction.”
The movie has received funding from American Idol founder and former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller.
Pattinson will next be seen in Remember Me and the third Twilight movie Eclipse.

Robert Pattinson starts filming his latest movie, Bel Ami, in February — and gets steamy with a bevy of beautiful co stars, including Christina Ricci. Life & Style has obtained the screenplay for this adaptation of Guy de Maupassant’s 1885 novel, in which Rob stars as journalist Georges Duroy, who climbs the social ladder by sleeping with a series of prominent women. One of his sex romps with Christina finds both their characters surprised by the intensity of the racy encounter. Tender, aching moments pass before Georges asks Christina’s Clotilde, “Now?” And he doesn’t stop there. Georges is quick and efficient with Madeleine (played by Uma Thurman) while sitting at a desk, rough and ravenous with Virginie (Kristin Scott Thomas) on the floor and eager up against a door with a prostitute named Rachel!
LA Confidential has a new interview up with Uma Thurman who’ll be one of Robert Pattinson’s co-stars in his much-anticipated up-coming movie Bel Ami.
LAC: What’s special about your upcoming film Bel Ami besides Robert Pattinson, who is so big right now, being your costar?
UT: He is a big star right now. I’m excited because the film is a classical, technical piece of work, and it’s beautiful. It’s a bit of bedroom drama. It’s a romance between Rob and a number of Parisian housewives.
LAC: And you’re one of the love interests?
UT: I end up marrying him, but there are some twists. My daughter is like, “Mom, why do you keep getting these roles where you’re getting younger men?” And I said, “Well at least I don’t do it in real life.”
Christina Ricci is reportedly joining Robert Pattinson and Uma Thurman in the film “Bel Ami,” according to a tweet from ProductionWeekly.com. A rep for Ricci had not responded to MTV News’ requests for comment at press time.
For his part, Pattinson has said the social-climbing role will be much different from vampiric heartthrob Edward Cullen in “Twilight.”
“It’s a totally amoral character,” Pattinson told Variety.
“Bel Ami” is the first post-”Twilight” movie Pattinson will film outside of Summit Entertainment, and the 23-year-old admitted he feels the need to prove himself. “Before ‘Twilight’ I did any movie that I got [offered], and you’d try and make the best of it afterward,” he explained. “But now you’re expected to come into the movie and provide not only economic viability, but also a performance as well. You can’t just mess around. People are like, ‘We’re employing you to be here, as a star and an actor.’ It’s difficult, and it’s scary.”
“Bel Ami,” filming for which is slated to begin next month in Paris, is an adaptation of an 1885 Guy de Maupassant short story and stars Pattinson as young journalist George Duroy, who rises from rags to riches by seducing Paris’ influential society women. Ricci will play Clotilde de Marelle, the wife of an oft-away railway inspector who strikes up a relationship with Duroy. The film also stars Thurman as Clotilde’s friend Madeleine Forestier, a onetime friend and mentor who becomes Duroy’s lover, and Kristin Scott Thomas as another of Duroy’s socialite paramours.
Robert Pattinson has a new co-star: Uma Thurman. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Thurman has joined the Twilight star in the film adaptation of Guy de Maupassant’s short story Bel Ami. Kristin Scott Thomas has also joined the cast. Pattinson plays a young journalist who sleeps his way to the top in Parisian society. Thurman plays his friend’s wife who helps him and later becomes his wife. Thomas plays a socialite who becomes clingy with the journalist. Declan Donnellan will direct the film, which is set to shoot in 2010 in Paris.
Robert Pattinson has wasted no time in parlaying his newfound Twilight fame into a secondary career as a serious actor. Sure he’s currently shooting the sequel New Moon, but outside of Twilight he’s lining up heavy, indie-dramas left and right. The latest added to his dance card is a movie called Bel Ami, based on a short story of the same name.
The short story follows a young journalist who find himself face to face with a corrupt society full of corrupt people. To survive he becomes one of them: a master seducer, a blackmailer, and shameless social climber. Speaking to Variety director Declan Donnellan describes the character as “totally amoral.” Basically he’s kind of a dick which, based on his work in Twilight, I can see the naturally aloof Pattinson pulling off with total ease.
